Quit smoking is easy, but personal
If you are here, I bet you are a smoker, who thinks about quitting. You were trying to quit several times before most probably. You quit for a week, month or half a year and came back to the habit. You can’t agree to phrase quit smoking is easy. You know it is not.
I hope I am wrong, but you tried to quit like everybody else, according to some kind of a well proven method. Online or offline program, pills, patches or good old pure power of will. So many testimonials and medical researches claims those methods work, but not for you. Why? Well quitting smoking is actually a personal thing. There is no versatile best treatment, no matter people who charges for those quit smoking courses claim.
Quitting smoking is personal for very simple reason- our motivation to smoke is different in every case. Some of us are emotional smokers, who can smoke a pack a week or a pack per night. Most people are regular and constant smokers, but with different circumstances in life. Some of us are in environment of mostly smokers, others on the contrary, feel constant guilt because of a habit. Guilt that forces reaching for another one.
There’s no point to name each and every motivation to smoke, as there are endless amounts of excuses, but you got the point. Smokers has different reasons to smoke, so each has to look for a personal way to quit once and for all. Easy as possible, preferably.
Different techniques of quitting smoking. Medication
The most popular way I see now is based on medications. There are two general types of medicines: based on nicotine and based on antidepressants. I’ll go deeper in to this topic some day, but now just consider under what circumstances may or may not it work. Manufacturers of those pills or patches do not guarantee success by the way.
Nicotine based gum, sprays, patches. The drill is, after you quit cigarettes, you starve for nicotine, so you can use one of mentioned above to feed your craving in order not to light on again the cancer stick. You remain addict but physical habit of smoking should disappear. This method has only some sense if you are a hard smoker. You smoke more than a pack a day, you smoke your first one before breakfast, or you wake up at night to have a hit. If you are not that kind of person, you do not need nicotine based products, as you are not addicted physically. If you answered at least one yes, please, let me know, can’t you just reduce to 15 cigs a day instead of 20 or have your first cigarette not right after you woke up, but with a morning coffee? It will have greater effect than a patch on a long run.
Antidepressant based pills, that helps to quit. Some years ago was noticed that people, who took antidepressants, had less craving to smoke. Some of them quit with no intention to it. Researches were made of course and pills manufactured. You can take them from day one you quit and they should help. I see many people on the net who are trying to quit. Did not see one who was suffering from depression his first week. People become depressed at about second week to second month. Depression comes in waves as I noticed. Meanwhile, Industry offers to take light antidepressants all the time.
If you tried patches pills or sprays and quit once and for all, I am truly happy. Unfortunately there are hordes of smokers who tries those products out and best result they reach are couple weeks or months smoke ( not nicotine in most cases) free. They pay loads of suffering and mental instability in return. First of all smokers were looking for “magic pill” that should do all the hard work for them. Secondly, sprays or pills solves only nicotine craving or depression- only two common factors of addiction. As we were talking earlier, addiction is a set of personal arguments, so there is no way treatment that is designed for all will suit for each personally.
I do endorse vitamins and supplements strongly, on the other hand. During the quitting period, your mind and body becomes more fragile as any other moment. Vitamins, minerals, supplements helps your body and mind to regenerate faster from stress you face. The problem is, it is so rarely you can find a nicotine and antidepressant free program, that offer some food supplements that are balanced for quitting smoking. After research on the net, I may recommend the one and only Australian program, that offers a supplement, made of vitamins and minerals. Pills are supported by e-mails, videos and sms course throughout the 30-day period. Check the review, and tell your opinion on that one.
Quit smoking programs
An alternative to medication is various quit smoking programs. Honestly, I watched only one of them online, not a big expert so be free to correct or disagree with me in comments. The drill of quit smoking program is will power accompanied with some physical and psychological exercises. Physical activity, cigarette count etc.
Not that bad at all. Some people do quit for good. The ones that are not keen to addiction in general. But what should a person do, who is not smoking for 6 months, but most pleasant moment is to smell the smoke that was exhaled by his coworkers near the office door? If that is your case, you can salute yourself as you are a person with a very strong will power. On the other hand you are still a smoker, just on a pause unfortunately.
Despite what is written on disclaimers of those programs, this is not an easy way to quit for sure.
Different techniques of quitting smoking. Do they work?
All measures that helps to quit are good, and all of them has their place under the sun. I am sure that group therapy or antidepressants helped for thousands of smokers. Out of the millions sadly.
What I see in social media often, are people, that are trying to quit according some kind of methodology that they have heard about or some commercial campaign persuaded them about the best way. I see hundreds of people in vain struggle, who are posting about their 12’th day of smoking free and asking for support of a group members, as being smoke free becomes harder every day. I see people who chose a wrong way at the start and the only way they have is to come back to their nasty addiction. Just not everybody knows it yet.
No need to give up for you on the other hand. After several attempts to quit, you gain the knowing, that conventional measures are not for you. Your quitting journey will be different, unique, more interesting. So where to start?
When to start quitting?
Start quitting now, at this very moment you are reading this sentence. Stop, take a deep breath and start quitting. Did that? Must be really a stressful moment. As you made such an important decision in your life, again, I suggest you to take a relaxing cigarette now. I’m not mocking you at all. You can go and have a smoke.
Quitting is a journey that takes time and determination but not a tremendous will power. As you are still a smoker, you are free to smoke, more than that, I demand you feel a great pleasure from a process, so be sure you will be thinking about pleasure of your cig while smoking it. There is no point to try quitting if you are still enjoying smoking and vice versa, there is no point to poison yourself with nicotine if you do not feel any pleasure from the process. That is the easy way to quit. The only problem is how to reduce pleasure form that nasty habit. Be sure I’ll be covering that in the future. Have a pleasant smoke so far.
